Your Awkward Brazilian Waxing Questions—Answered

Your Awkward Brazilian Waxing Questions—Answered

Whether you’ve been waxing for years or have yet to take the plunge, the idea of Brazilian waxing can feel…vulnerable. But at EWC, your comfort is kind of our thing. From our exclusive Comfort Wax®—specially formulated to minimize discomfort—to our commitment to creating a welcoming, judgement-free environment.

Our Wax Specialists have been at this for a long time, and they know what can make guests feel self-conscious when it comes to waxing. Below, Jamie Conner, a senior field trainer at European Wax Center, answers your awkward questions about Brazilian waxing. No need to be shy, we’re all in this together now!

Can I have sex after a wax?

It’s best to wait 24 hours, but if you choose not to, try to wait at least 8–12 hours to allow the skin to calm down. The area is freshly exfoliated and more sensitive, so there’s a higher chance of irritation.

If you do have sex sooner:

  • Keep the area clean before and after
  • Avoid excess friction
  • Wear loose, breathable clothing afterward
  • Skip if you’re experiencing significant redness, tenderness, or sensitivity

What if I'm worried about odor?

Odor is typically caused by bacteria, sweat, or trapped moisture, not hair alone. Waxing can actually help reduce odor over time by removing buildup. Maintaining proper hygiene, wearing breathable fabrics, and using recommended post-wax products will help manage this.

Can I wax if I'm on my period?

Yes. Just wear a tampon or menstrual cup. Be aware that you may feel more sensitive during your cycle, so discomfort could be slightly higher than usual.

Do I have too much hair for waxing?

No. Our proprietary hard wax is designed to remove all hair types and densities. If hair is longer, your wax specialist may trim it first to ensure a more comfortable and effective service.

Can I still get waxed if I'm bigger?

YES! Waxing is for every body type. Wax Specialists are trained to position and support you comfortably to ensure proper access and a smooth service.

Does a butt strip hurt?

It can feel like a quick snap or sting, but it’s very fast. Most guests say it’s less painful than expected and over quickly.

Should I/do I have to remove all my hair?

No. It’s completely customizable. You can choose anything from a clean-up (bikini line) to a full removal (Brazilian) or something in between, and we’ll leave as much as you prefer.

What if I’m not perfectly clean before my appointment?

You should arrive with basic hygiene, but you don’t need to be overly concerned. Professionals understand real life and will prep the skin before starting. We also have restrooms available if you’d like to freshen up beforehand, so you can feel comfortable going into your service.

Can I get waxed if I'm pregnant?

Yes, as long as your pregnancy is healthy and approved by your doctor if you have any concerns. Skin may be more sensitive, so communication with your wax specialist is key.

Do I have to disrobe? What if I feel uncomfortable or embarrassed?

For this service, you will need to remove undergarments so your wax specialist can work efficiently on both sides of the body. This supports a fast, consistent service, especially in a speed waxing environment.

That said, your comfort is still the priority. Wax Specialists are licensed professionals who are trained to maintain discretion, clear communication, and professional positioning throughout the service. You will be guided step-by-step so you always know what to expect, and your comfort level will be respected at all times.

What if I have ingrown hairs, discoloration, or bumps?

This is very common. Our Wax Specialists see all skin types and conditions and can recommend products and routines to improve the skin over time.

Will I be judged for how I look “down there”?

Not at all. Every guest is different. Our Wax Specialists are professionals who see it all, and they focus on technique, safety, and results—not appearance.

What if I have stretch marks, scars, or loose skin?

These are all normal and can still be safely waxed. Your specialist will adjust their technique to protect the skin.

While the idea of Brazilian waxing might seem awkward, our experts provide a welcoming, professional experience that leaves you feeling smooth, confident, and fresh. Book your Brazilian wax at a European Wax Center near you.
