Our History

1992

Nelson Coba moved from Ecuador to build a successful salon business in America. Five years later, his sons, Dave and Josh Coba, joined him - quite literally making it a family company.

1997

Nelson’s two sons, Dave and Josh, join their father in the salon business.

2001

When the recession hits, Dave and Josh realize that waxing is the only service still thriving in the salon. That’s when they have a revolutionary idea: to create a business soley around waxing.

2002

Determined to develop the world’s best wax, the Coba Brothers go to Europe and work with a chemist to create what is now know as EWC’s exclusive Comfort Wax™️ - which makes waxing virtually painless.

2004

European Wax Center is officially founded. Our concept is simple: to bring the distinctive waxing expertise and luxurious experience of EWC to guests across the US. On opening day, nobody showed up! So Dave and Josh decided to incentivize customers with a free wax, and to this day, the first wax at EWC is always free.

2009

European Wax Center’s first product line is unveiled marking our step toward becoming a personal care brand.

2011

INC Magazine names European Wax Center the fastest growing franchise in the US, highlighting our relentless commitment to excellence.

2016

We launch the Strut 365®️ product portfolio.

2019

European Wax Center establishes our work headquarters in Plano, TX.

2021

European Wax Center makes its debut as a publicly listed company EWCZ, marking an exciting journey forward to widen the gap and remain the leader in the out of home waxing industry. We retired the Strut 365®️ product line to make way for our enhanced proprietary pre- and post-wax product line: Treat, Slow, Glow, Groom product systems.

Media Club: The purpose is to engage and connect with one another via discussions on current events, media clips, books, podcasts, articles and other materials exploring topics related to diversity and inclusion that challenge our biases and expand our understanding of different cultures and experience.

"In My House" Podcast: Each episode features an associate who shares their personal experiences and traditions surrounding a specific cultural holiday to promote understanding and respect for different cultures and traditions.

Mentorship

Mentorship Program: We believe in providing ample opportunites for growth and development to our associates. To help associates navigate their careers, we offer a voluntary mentorship program that helps identify and develop vital skills.

Allyship

Diversity Allies: Our Allies Committee is a broad-based initiative that offers support for associate across the organization by colleagues who volunteer to serve as allies. These allies provide a safe space for a diverse cross section of associates to talk about any topic, seek guidance and feel heard.

Giving Back

We are proud to support the missions of organizations like WeHero and the National Domestic Violence Hotline through volunteerism and donation. By partnering with these organizations and others, we hope to make a difference in the lives of those in need and inspire more champions of confidence.

The mission of Pathways to Success, our brand-wide philanthropic efforts, is to help create smoother pathways by empowering and supporting our associates, guest and communities through two pillars: (Re)Build and Unlock.

Under the (Re)Build pillar, we aim to rebuild confidence, lift those in need of a second chance at success and support individuals who have faced adversity. In 2024, we are bringing the (Re)Build pillar to life by joining hands with the National Domestic Violence Hotline to bring attention to this critical topic and offer support, resources and funding to help survivors thrive. Under the Unlock pillar, we seek to open opportunities and careers people love through expert guidance, mentorship and scholarship. One way we’re doing that is by investing in our associates’ development to help them achieve their goals and build a long-lasting career. In 2022, we launched the “Champions in Confidence” EWC associate scholarship in partnership with Beauty Changes Lives that awards two $10,000 scholarships to EWC associates to help them pursue a career in waxing.
